I found something pretty neat by surfing around: USBCell, the rechargeable batteries, that can be charged at an USB port! 🙂

Now, this is neat and handy, isn’t it? 🙂 It can be only purchased in UK, Ireland and USA yet (from here) but if you are living in another country, they can notify you once it’s available in yours (sign in here.).

SMC vs.. SPH101 which one is better (well the SMC one is like 100 € cheaper)

After I read SMC reviews and this thread, I am happy I invested the extra money for an SPH101:

SMC wi-fi Skype standalone – Skype Forum.

The SPH101 does not have such issues which make the phone barely usable, fortunately! 🙂 I even received my headset today and it works! 🙂 – even for the RTX Dualphone but not on SkypeOut or PSTN line calls, only on Skype2Skype (the first ones cause an echo or constant disturbance noise).

But I originally bought it for the Netgear SPH101 and there it works perfect! =)
It even switches it off if not in use to save battery! 🙂

Today, the ICQ Team – i.e. ICQ 6 Programmer Sami A. elaborated about how sent messages are displayed:

“There are a lot of things I’m excited about in this new version. As an experienced programmer, I can say there are elements which are very innovative. For example, a new and friendly way of sending IM to your friends, or the ability to see easily and clearly all the messages received.
In general, I like this version for its user friendliness and great colors. I think this serves the ICQ brand perfectly.“

Which does allow the guess that the most missed feature in ICQ 5.1 – A Message History Search & Archive could find its way back into ICQ 6 as I predicted earlier.

This post is a followup about my Headsets for Dual Phone post.

There are a few unclear things about the new Netgear SPH 101 Skpye Standalone Phone because they are not mentioned anywhwere/everywhere, so let’s mention them here:

The phone is available e.g. as IS or GR version at Amazon.de, so what is the difference between the two?

The answer we find here: at http://netgear.de/Support/vermerk.html

-GR version: German speaking (Germany) packaging and installation manual, partly German graphical user interfaces (depends on product)
-IS version: International version (International Spelling) with manual in German, English, Italian, French, Swedish

Here the answer from Netgear:

“GR and IS are only names thare are given internally from Netgear used for different regions. GR stands for Germany. The products themselves do not differ!

I even got information from Netgear and Sennheiser regaring headset compatibility:

“Good Day,
Please excuse the waiting time.

Sennheiser headsets have been tested by our co-workers including every day usage.

Headsets for the Motorola V226 and E6801 should be compatible, too.

But generally, there is no official compatibility list from Netgear, yet.“

Senneheiser’s statement:

“Dear Mr. Jörg
I thank you for showing us the interest in our products. The MM-headset with 2,5mm jack is specifically designed for Motorola.
RTX is right I’m afraid and what this means is the way everybody have chosen the pinout config. All the jacks are standard in terms of dimensions (2,5/3,5/6,3mm)“

About the question whether the Sennheiser MM30 is compatibe:

These models can be found in our selector and that means that it is compatible yes!

Also important: Forget about the German product info page has errors, e.g. that there is a contact list limit of 200.

Netgear regarding this:

“At unclear information about a product, always the information at the English site is valid (netgear.com)!“

Maybe this headset information will help also with my Headsets for Dual Phone issue, since according to AperorDirect‘s Howard Chang:

“The headset comes with my old Motorola works just fine. I called the Skype
echo123 test center and passed the test. (The headset is with a 2.5mm 2-ring
jack.)”

– so it could be that it also will work with my Dual Phone! 🙂

The Sennheiser MM30 should be here soon, then I will post about it again! 🙂

The public chat “Skype English blog chat” got a new home. The following could been read in the old chat:

So all this hassle because of a bug which prevented the Staff member Jaanus Kaase to join again his own public chat.

It will take ages to get into the new chat since tehre is a limit of 100 participants and most people bookmark the chat and stay there forever.

My earlier post about the ICQ 5.1 crash problem solution and ICQ’s URL fix seems to have spread quite well! 🙂 Infact it was linked to on serveral blogs. E.g. here and here. It’s a great feeling to know that I have been helpful to many! 🙂

The long awaited ICQ 6 Preview is coming!

As always, the new preview is limited to a small amount of users. In past, the limit has been set to 30.000. According to the ICQ 6 Preview page, this time you need to apply for an invitation and this time there are only about 800 (daily) to give out, so it’s a very closed cycle now.

A lot of people and ICQ/IM news sites complained that ICQ does not move forward, no new developments, and they called it dead. However, by tradition, the ICQ Team releases a new version every year and releases an alpha client for user testing by the end of the year. They are late this year but I am glad that their traditions won’t be broken!

Next to the usual testers forum, they have started an ICQ 6 Blog in which the ICQ Team writes about ICQ 6 and its proccess! And they even reveal some new features.

I have compiled a blog post about the features they promised earlier to include. So you might like to check it out!

Is Master Yoda working at SPEED-LINK? =)

The above screenshot I received while installing the 3D sound drivers for my new Kalliope USB Headset. It’s pretty heavy to make so many mistakes in such a short message – and I have to adit: I had to think about it a few seconds till I understood what my PC wanted from me. Anyway, the drivers do not work right anyway, so I will stick with the default C-Media ones.
